These
images were taken at a regular Friday Sufi ritual at the Hamad El
Niel Mosque in Khartoum, Sudan. The weekly ceremony is an expression
of divine love and attracts hundreds of participants and spectators
from the area. Photography was welcomed by the elders as dervishes
whirled around the expanding circle, caught up in their transcendent
rapport with the divine.
Sufism, or as some say, the Sufi Way, is considered by many as the
mystical branch of Islam. Sufism is practiced worldwide.
