The
documentary includes:
- A
global context and addresses the issue of women's reproductive
rights in a diverse and inclusive way. Several of the world's
foremost experts on this issue from Islam, Judaism, Hinduism,
Buddhism and both Protestant and Roman Catholic traditions
within Christianity are interviewed.
- Provides
an understanding of what religion represents in people's
lives, why their religious beliefs are important to them,
and how those beliefs impact their reproductive decisions.
- Provides
a historical overview on contraception and abortion practices
and ideas that takes it out of the Roe v Wade generation
and places it in the context of the past two thousand years.
- Allows
for a theological forum with leading scholars discussing
the religious issues surrounding family planning and a woman's
reproductive rights.
- Places
the debate in a "real world" context by looking
at the issue of family planning not just in the United States
but also in Africa, Asia and South America.
- In
an effort to attract an audience with diverse opinions on
this issue, the producers have tried to create a program
that is uniquely fair to various perspectives. The hope
is that those who might consider themselves traditionally
liberal or conservative on this issue will find in the documentary
a discourse that is both sensitive and thought provoking
without being divisive or counter productive.

of The Duncan Group in association with WTTW-TV (Chicago).

The
issues surrounding a woman's reproductive rights are international
in scope. In many countries, a woman's right to contraception
and abortion is a religious issue, a legal issue, an ethical
issue, and a social/cultural issue. In the United States it
is also a major political issue. In A Just World addresses
all of these issues in some way with a significant focus on
the relationship between a woman's reproductive rights and
her religion. Specifically, the show includes discussion of
Hinduism, Judaism, Islam, Christianity and Buddhism. The program
is also multicultural and features women from around the world
with a specific emphasis on the US, Ethiopia and Peru.
The
documentary looks at the teachings of major world religions
as they relate to contraception, abortion and family planning.
